Barite, also known as Barium Sulfate or Barytes, is a naturally occurring high-density mineral with the chemical formula BaSO₄. Its high specific gravity, chemical stability and relatively inert nature make it an important industrial mineral, with its primary commercial application being as a weighting agent in oil and gas drilling fluids. Barite is also used in paints and coatings, plastics, rubber, glass, construction materials and other industrial applications.

Product Description
Production Method
Natural Barite is produced through mining, crushing, beneficiation and grinding. Depending on ore characteristics, beneficiation may include washing, jigging, gravity separation, flotation, magnetic separation or other concentration methods to increase density and reduce unwanted gangue minerals. The processed material is then ground and classified according to the particle-size and application requirements.
Drilling Grade
For oil and gas drilling, Barite is primarily valued for its high specific gravity, which increases drilling-fluid density and helps control formation pressure. API Specification 13A defines Barite 4.1 and Barite 4.2 density grades and specifies additional physical and chemical requirements for drilling-fluid applications.
Storage & Shelf Life
Barite is a stable mineral product and should generally be stored in a dry area, protected from excessive moisture and contamination. Packaging should remain intact during storage and transportation. Shelf life is generally long when the product is kept dry and properly packaged; specific shelf-life information should be confirmed according to the supplier’s product specification.
